All We Like Sheep

Here's another piece we'll be doing in our Easter concerts.  The words and music were written by John Purifoy.  Such a beautiful piece, don't you think?  It has a similar feeling to a piece we performed during our Christmas concerts — Et In Terra Pax (And on Earth, Peace).  Good reason, too.  John Purifoy composed both of them.

All we like sheep have gone astray.
We have turned, ev'ry one,to his own way.
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Surely, surely He has borne our griefs,
And carried our sorrows.
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God and afflicted.
He was wounded for our transgressions.
Surely, surely He has borne our griefs!

Like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
And a sheep that before its shearers is silent.
He opened not His mouth.
He opened not His mouth.

Surely, surely He has borne our griefs,
And carried our sorrows.
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God and afflicted.
He was wounded for our transgressions.
Surely, surely He has borne our griefs!

All we like sheep have gone astray.
We have turned, ev'ry one,to his own way.
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
